‘Spirit of Calligraphic Art’ China-Korea-Japan Calligraphy Exhibition Opens at Seoul Arts Center

An international calligraphy exhibition showcasing the essence of East Asian calligraphy, the 'China-Korea-Japan Calligraphy International Exchange Exhibition,' will be held from October 31st to November 8th at the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum of the Seoul Arts Center. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Federation of Korean Calligraphy Organizations (hereafter referred to as the Korean Calligraphy Federation), this exhibition aims to provide a venue for calligraphers from the three countries to exchange and harmonize through the art of writing. In particular, this exchange exhibition offers a rare opportunity to appreciate the unique calligraphic styles that each country's calligraphers have developed over a long history and tradition, and is expected to provide a valuable experience to feel the depth of East Asian culture and art. In addition, various side events will be held during the exhibition period, which are expected to enhance understanding of calligraphy and promote broader cultural exchange. It is hoped that this event will further strengthen the cultural ties between Korea, China, and Japan, and that the artistic value of calligraphy will be widely recognized.

The 'China-Korea-Japan Calligraphy International Exchange Exhibition' will feature high-quality works by 60 calligraphers representing Korea, 50 artists recommended by the China Calligraphers Association, and 15 artists recommended by the Japan Calligraphy Federation. The Korean Calligraphy Federation has selected artists representing the Korean calligraphy scene through rigorous screening, and they will showcase the present state of Korean calligraphy through diverse calligraphic styles that reflect their individual personalities and skills. The China Calligraphers Association will also carefully select works that harmonize the tradition and modern sensibility of Chinese calligraphy for submission to this exchange exhibition. The Japan Calligraphy Federation is also expected to showcase the beauty of Japanese calligraphy through works that embody the delicate and refined calligraphic style unique to Japan. As representative calligraphers from each country participate, this exhibition will be a special opportunity to view the diverse aspects of East Asian calligraphy at a glance. In particular, it is expected that the process of calligraphers from each country inspiring and exchanging with each other through their works will serve as an opportunity to explore new possibilities for the development of East Asian calligraphy.

The 'China-Korea-Japan Calligraphy International Exchange Exhibition' is expected to function as an important platform for East Asian cultural exchange, going beyond a simple exhibition of works. The Korean Calligraphy Federation aims to promote the excellence of Korean calligraphy to the world through this exhibition and contribute to the development of East Asian calligraphy culture. In addition, this exhibition will raise public interest in calligraphy and provide an opportunity to newly discover the artistic value of calligraphy. In particular, it is expected to have a positive impact on encouraging younger generations to understand traditional culture through calligraphy and participate in creative artistic activities. The exhibition, which will be held at the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum of the Seoul Arts Center, is free for anyone to visit, and detailed information can be found on the website of the Korean Calligraphy Federation or the Seoul Arts Center. We ask for your interest and participation.
