Cheongju National University of Education to Host Special Lecture by Former Pro Go Player Lee Sedol
Cheongju National University of Education (CNUE) announced it will host a special lecture by former professional Go player Lee Sedol on the 30th at the Cheongnam Maru of the Educational Research Institute. The aim is to empower future teachers and explore diverse career paths. The lecture is expected to contribute to cultivating the skills that pre-service teachers need in a rapidly changing era and broadening their understanding of various fields. Especially in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), where the importance of human creativity and thinking skills is increasingly emphasized, Lee Sedol's experience and insights are expected to deeply inspire future teachers.
In this special lecture, Lee Sedol, a professor at the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence at Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), will speak on the topic of 'Mathematical Reasoning of the Great Kingdom: A New Challenge Encompassing 30 Years of Go Life, From AlphaGo to Becoming a Board Game Creator.' Lee Sedol is expected to emphasize the importance of mathematical reasoning and the need for creative thinking, based on his 30 years of experience as a professional Go player and the lessons learned from his match against the AI AlphaGo. Furthermore, his new challenge as a board game creator after the AlphaGo match is expected to provide pre-service teachers with a new perspective on career paths and remind them of the importance of continuous self-development.
Lee Sedol also gave a special lecture at the 123rd Seo-gu Academy held at the Deulbul Hall in Seo-gu, Gwangju, on the 16th. At that time, he gave a lecture on the theme of 'The Importance of Thinking Humans Beyond AI in the AI Era,' which was well received. As artificial intelligence technology rapidly develops and AI-based education methods are being introduced in the education field, Lee Sedol emphasized the importance of human's unique creativity and critical thinking skills that cannot be replaced by AI. He urged pre-service teachers to strive to cultivate these skills. His lecture was evaluated as an opportunity to raise in-depth questions about the direction of education in the AI era.
