Lee Eun-kwon Elected New Chairman of People Power Party's Daejeon Chapter
On October 29, 2025, the Daejeon chapter of the People Power Party (PPP) held a convention and elected Lee Eun-kwon as its new chairman. The election was triggered by the sudden passing of former chairman Lee Sang-min, leaving the position vacant. To fill the vacancy, the PPP's Daejeon chapter announced a call for candidates. A total of three individuals registered: Park Kyung-ho, chairman of the Daedeok-gu party committee; Lee Eun-kwon, chairman of the Jung-gu party committee; and Cho Su-yeon, chairman of the Seo-gu Gap party committee, setting the stage for a competitive race.
Out of 582 eligible delegates, 419 participated in the election, resulting in a voter turnout of 71.99%. This high turnout reflects significant interest in the affairs of the PPP's Daejeon chapter. During the campaign period, which began on October 24, each candidate actively campaigned for support through mobile voting. Lee Eun-kwon, leveraging his strong local base as chairman of the Jung-gu party committee, focused on securing the votes of the delegates. Park Kyung-ho and Cho Su-yeon also concentrated on solidifying their support within their respective regions of Daedeok-gu and Seo-gu Gap. The candidates presented their policy visions and promised initiatives for regional development, actively engaging with voters.
After the mobile voting concluded at 5 PM, the ballot counting began at 5:30 PM. The results showed that Lee Eun-kwon, chairman of the Jung-gu party committee, received the most votes and was ultimately elected as the new chairman of the PPP's Daejeon chapter. Immediately after his election, Lee expressed his deep gratitude to the delegates and declared his ambition to "restore Daejeon's honor and the pride of the People Power Party." As the leader responsible for guiding the PPP's Daejeon chapter, he pledged to do his utmost for the development of the Daejeon region. Furthermore, Chairman Lee promised to listen more attentively to the voices of Daejeon citizens and to pursue policies that would provide tangible benefits to their lives.
Lee Eun-kwon's appointment will be officially confirmed after receiving approval from the party's Supreme Council, after which he will lead the PPP's Daejeon chapter. His election is expected to inject new vitality into the chapter. In particular, it is anticipated that Chairman Lee will actively address regional issues in close cooperation with the Daejeon city government, drawing upon his local political experience and party network. He is also expected to focus on rallying the party's strength and expanding citizen support to lead the PPP to victory in the upcoming local and general elections. Attention is focused on what changes and accomplishments the PPP's Daejeon chapter will achieve under his leadership.
This election for the chairman of the PPP's Daejeon chapter is being hailed as an example of healthy democratic processes within the party.
